Basic Function:
Under the direction of the Medical Director of Laboratory, Administrative Director of Laboratory Services, and Laboratory Supervisor, the Phlebotomist collects blood and other biological specimens as requested by the ordering provider.
The phlebotomist job responsibility will include verifying patient information, labeling specimen containers, and submitting specimens for further processing or testing.

This position may require other related duties and activities as assigned by the Administrative Director of the Laboratory.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for entering laboratory tests in the computer, performing specimen collection, receiving specimens in the computer, delivery of specimens to the laboratory department, and specimen processing as appropriate.
Assists nursing with blood draws, when requested.
Implements phlebotomy procedures appropriate to age with respect to levels of growth and development in accordance with established policies.
Organizes and maintains adequate phlebotomy supplies for daily operation.
Coordinates efforts to effectively work with others in a way that is productive.
Able to organize work and perform multiple tasks simultaneously during emergent or peak workload situations to expedite patient results reporting.
Adapts to changes or unusual circumstances in a way that promotes cooperation and minimizes disruption to working environment.
Attends lab meetings.
Uses spare time in work related activities contributing to the laboratory’s needs, consults with laboratory supervision for additional assignments that benefits the operations of the laboratory.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School graduate or equivalent work experience, including ability to read, write, and comprehend medical terminology.
Requires a valid Ohio Driver’s license, good driving record, and be insurable under the medical center’s standard insurance policies.
Must have state required insurance coverage when using their own vehicle for Southeastern Med business.
Ability to satisfactorily complete orientation training program.
Ability to work under pressure and relate to patients, visitors, physicians, and hospital staff with a positive and professional attitude.
Ability to respond calmly to patient complications that may occur during specimen collection, such as fainting or seizures, or other patient conditions.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions; exhibits initiative and good judgment, posses a memory for details.
Always greets patients in a courteous manner and verifies correct patient identification prior to specimen collection.
Ability to perform basic computer skills.
