GENERAL SUMMARY: Administers skilled direct and indirect patient care to an assigned group of patients according to the patient’s plan of care under the direction of the registered nurse.
Adheres to universal precautions and is compliant with infection control policies.
Carries out job requirements as delegated by and with the supervision of a registered nurse.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma.
Completion of an accredited educational program for Practical Nurse and current non-restricted Ohio LPN license.
Completion of an approved pharmacology course.
Current CPR certification required.
Up to date immunizations as required by MVHC.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Attention to detail.
Basic computer skills.
Pleasant phone etiquette.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Lifting up to 50 lbs with or without an accommodation.
Carry up to 20 lbs occasionally.
Standing 1-2 hours at a time Walking approx.
30 minutes per hour throughout the day.
Withstanding pressure and deals with emergency situations as needed.
Average working hours with possible non-traditional hours.
Potential for exposure to blood and body fluids.
Ability to deal with upset or disgruntle patients in order to deescalate the situation.
SPECIFIC DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Adheres to Personnel Policies.
Maintains patient flow as directed.
Prepares examination room for patients and providers.
Obtains patient history.
Administers medications within scope.
Performs routine patient procedures (vital signs, routine lab work, anthropometrics) as per nursing/provider direction or as by protocols.
Assists with patient care tasks and procedures, i.
e.
pap tests/pelvic exams, surgical procedures, and dressings.
Reinforces patient education.
Obtains informed consent.
Schedules consults, tests, referrals and obtains prior authorization.
Administers medications within scope.
Prepares patients for diagnostics tests; collects and labels specimens, completes POC testing and daily quality controls.
Participates in Quality improvement activities that include identifying clinical problems, participates in quality improvement teams and evaluating effectiveness of program improvements.
Performs equipment checks and calibrations.
Administers screening tests under the direction of medical providers and nurses.
Assist patient as needed, responding promptly to patient calls and requests.
Assists in organizing medical information as needed prior to the patient visit.
Cleans, sanitize, and sterilizes instruments, equipment and exam room as required.
Calls in prescriptions accurately and timely; prepares prescription refills in the EHR.
Answers telephone, makes same day appointments and takes messages for nurses and doctors.
Tracks imaging and lab results.
Maintains supplies in exam rooms, inventories, and restocks usable items; washes, wraps and sterilizes instruments as required.
Maintains a clean, safe, orderly work area and stocks clinical areas.
Orders supplies.
Maintains refrigerator temperature log.
Adheres to center infection control policies.
Actively participates in quality improvement.
Maintains accurate documentation in medical records and performs documentation in the patient room.
Participates in staff meetings as required.
Precepts new staff.
Strict adherence to confidentiality of all information related to all patients and organizational information.
Performs other job-related tasks as directed.
Assist the patient in obtaining, processing, and understanding basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions.
