Summary AMG Vanadium (AMG V) is seeking a Director of Engineering to join our growing organization.
In this position, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of capital projects within the Company and the coordination of activities that support the maintenance of equipment, asset management, operations, and production at both locations.
This critical role ensures the successful delivery of projects on time, within budget, and meeting quality standards.
You will lead a team that drives project execution excellence and governance, as well as provide oversight of AMG V capital planning.
Responsibilities and Duties • Leads by example and comply with all AMG V safety and environmental requirements and Company policies and procedures, including AMG’s Code of Business Conduct.
• Embraces and promotes the AMG V culture in all day-to-day activities; foster and promote a positive, respectful work environment that is aligned with AMG’s Values.
• Develops and implements a comprehensive capital project management strategy aligned with the Company's business goals and growth/cost/sustainability objectives.
• Directs the negotiation of equipment and construction contracts and also prepares the company’s budget, bids, and contracts.
• Develops and implements policies, standards, and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the organization.
• Leads and manages a team of engineers by providing guidance, coaching, and support to ensure successful project execution and governance to AMG V policy and procedures.
• Oversees the entire project lifecycle and capital governance process, from ideation to production handover, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
• Ensures teams collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Finance, Procurement and Legal, to define project scope, cost and schedules with aligned objectives and deliverables.
• Develops and maintains strong relationships with external vendors, contractors, and suppliers to ensure effective project execution and resource allocation.
• Conducts regular project status meetings, providing updates to senior leadership and stakeholders on project progress, risks, and mitigation strategies with key performance indicators.
• Monitors and controls project budgets, ensuring effective cost management, schedule management, scope management and resource allocation.
• Implements project management best practices, tools, and methodologies to drive efficiency and effectiveness in project execution.
• Identifies and mitigates project risks, proactively addressing issues and obstacles to ensure successful project outcomes.
• Fosters a culture of continuous improvement, driving innovation and operational excellence within the capital project management function.
• Stays updated with industry trends, emerging practices, and regulatory changes related to capital project management, incorporating relevant updates into the company's project management framework.
• Responsible for the management and development of electrical and mechanical engineering teams.
Develops performance expectations, audit performance, document findings, and establish corrective action plans; ensures training plans are current.
• Strives to improve efficiency and sustainability of processes and product designs, and to reduce waste.
Qualifications/Skills/Requirements • Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• Project Management Certification (PMP) is preferred.
• 5-7 years’ leadership experience in a manufacturing environment over multiple locations.
• 5-7 years Metallurgical, steel, chemical or petrochemical operations and design experience required.
• Molten metal experience, preferred.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement Methodologies.
• Capital project management, commissioning and start-up experience is required.
