Job Title: Associate Gas System Design Engineer
(This position can be located anywhere within the Indiana or Ohio service territory)
Summary
Provide technical advice, assistance, and training necessary for designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining pipelines, measurement, regulation, and related equipment.
Provide detailed designs, estimates, and construction drawings for pipelines, measurement, regulation and related equipment.
Collaborate with peers across NiSource and the industry to ensure effective technical solutions.
Maintain strong communications and working relationships with various operating, engineering, and staff departments in an effort to provide needed technical support and direction.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities Strategic management and technical assistance on engineering applications and Operations initiatives Accepts special assignments developing studies related to cost, facility design, work load, time studies, manpower requirements, environmental concerns, facility failures, class location requirements, etc.
On-Site visits to field locations in order to review operation and maintenance practices and advise upon compliance issues to codes and standards (may require extended stay in field location area) Provides "quick response" project and service proposals to internal and non-utility customers Promotes the necessary environment for effective customer satisfaction Improves capital spending efficiency and return on invested capital Drives functional consistency, process standardization, and operational excellence.
Assures activities and processes are implemented to ensure the safe, reliable, and cost effective delivery of service to customers.
Recommends, justifies, and implements value-added technology, tools, and planning techniques to improve process results and capital spending efficiency.
Facilitates best practice, identification, quantification, and adoption across Distribution Operations.
Assures Gas Transmission and M&R designs comply with federal, state, and local codes.
Directs the delivery of pipeline, M&R designs, material recommendations, standard drawings, estimates, and technical support for gas conditioning, regulation, and metering equipment Builds and maintains relationships which foster customer loyalty and satisfaction Prepares and maintains standard, large station, and miscellaneous designs and accompanying drawings.
Assists with development of policies and procedures and the evaluation of material and equipment Prepares various reports and documents (i.
e.
status reports, budget information, technical papers) Maintains, enhances, and provides technical support Provides effective training and education that transfers knowledge to the workplace Assists with troubleshooting equipment and material problems, develops and recommends solutions Assists in preparation of Requests for Proposal (RFP) Provides Meter Shop and Fabrication Shop with technical expertise and business guidance as necessary Provides team and peer leadership Strong partnerships with key stakeholders and peers Timely technical support to business units Standard operating practices, policies, and procedures in compliance with applicable codes.
Best practice opportunities are identified, shared, and adopted Detailed standard designs, large station designs, miscellaneous designs, accompanying drawings, and support processes are updated and maintained Strategic management and technical assistance on engineering applications and Operations initiatives Strategic and timely design and project management of pipelines and M&R facilities to diversify supply alternatives into the distribution systems Effective training and education that transfers knowledge to the workplace Technical advice, assistance and training necessary for the design and installation of pipelines, measurement, regulation, and related equipment Improved products, processes and equipment to provide the best value to customers at the lowest possible cost Improved processes through monitoring of industry trends and emerging competitive business practices Effective team and customer relationships with clearly defined expectations Compliant designs completed on time and within budget Effective decisions Strong partnerships with key stakeholders and peers Required Qualifications for Position Must possess a valid drivers license Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Demonstrated project management capabilities Successful completion of a balanced mix of courses in Measurement, Regulation, and related equipment design (courses may include, but are not limited to, those sponsored by IGT, manufacturers, natural gas industry associations, higher learning institutions or company) Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD and PC based applications Ability to travel 30% to 60% of time (depending on successful candidates location) within the NiSource footprint, including days in consecutive weeks Valid driver's license Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position Professional Engineering License (PE) Masters of Business Administration 5 years operations experience in Pipeline, Regulation, Measurement, Electronic Measurement or Operations Engineering, or proven comparable experience in the same 2 year operations experience in Engineering, Pipeline, Regulation, Measurement, Electronic Measurement or Operations, or proven comparable experience in the same.
